It can operate on rectangular sites and in the airspace above them, commonly used for loading and unloading goods in workshops, warehouses, open-air storage yards, and similar locations. Types include girder cranes, bridge cranes, cable cranes, and transport bridges. (1) Girder Cranes: Girder cranes mainly comprise single-girder bridge cranes and double-girder bridge cranes. The main beam of a single-girder bridge crane typically adopts an I‑section steel or a composite cross-section made of steel profiles and steel plates. The trolley is often equipped with a hand chain hoist, an electric hoist, or a hoist serving as the lifting mechanism. Based on the bridge structure, they are classified into two types: supported and suspended. In the former, the bridge runs along crane rails mounted on the trolley beam; in the latter, the bridge moves along crane rails suspended beneath the factory roof trusses. Single-girder bridge cranes come in manual and electric versions. Manual single-girder bridge cranes feature lower operating speeds and smaller lifting capacities, but their lighter self-weight makes them easier to manufacture, resulting in lower costs. They are well suited for applications without access to power, involving relatively small handling volumes, and where speed and productivity requirements are not stringent. Manual single-girder bridge cranes use a manually operated monorail trolley for travel and a hand chain hoist as the lifting mechanism, with the bridge consisting of a main beam and end beams. The main beam is usually a single I‑beam, while the end beams are fabricated from structural steel sections or welded steel plates formed by bending. Electric single-girder bridge cranes offer higher operating speeds and greater productivity compared to manual models, and they also support heavier loads. Electric single-girder bridge cranes consist of a bridge structure and a trolley traveling mechanism.
