The MDG‑type hook‑type gantry crane is a single‑girder, general‑purpose gantry crane, also known as an L‑leg single‑girder gantry crane. This crane is designed and manufactured in accordance with GB 14406‑1993, “General‑Purpose Gantry Cranes.” It typically handles lifting capacities of 3–50 tonnes, with operating duty classes A5–A6, and offers three control options: ground control, cab control, and remote control. The crane is well suited for outdoor handling and material‑handling operations at docks, freight yards, and similar sites, particularly for lifting slender, elongated loads, and is widely used in lumber yards, pile‑pipe factories, and other applications. Its compact footprint facilitates transportation and installation. Advantages include a wide field of view, flexible operation, high efficiency, and moderate pricing. Disadvantages are that its bridge structure consists of a single girder, resulting in relatively poor running stability, significant sway, and limited wind resistance.
Precautions for use:
1. Span and cantilever length
The span of a gantry crane is a key factor influencing the crane’s own weight. When selecting a span, while ensuring that it meets the equipment’s operating requirements and complies with standard span series, the span should be minimized as much as possible.
2. Principles for Determining Wheel Track Width
(a) It shall meet the stability requirements of the gantry in the direction of the crane track.
(b) The external dimensions of the cargo must allow it to pass smoothly through the outrigger‑mounted steel frame.
(c) Ensure that the wheelbase B is in a specified proportional relationship with the span S; typically, the wheelbase is taken as B = (1/4–1/6)S.
3. Determination of Spacing Dimensions for Gantry Cranes
In operation, sufficient clearance must be maintained between the gantry crane’s external dimensions and the cargo in the yard as well as the access lanes for transport vehicles to facilitate loading and unloading. When handling loads within the span, transport vehicles should maintain a minimum clearance of 0.7 m from the crane legs. When the lifting attachment is idle, it should be kept at least 0.5 m away from the transport vehicle, and when cargo passes beneath the crane legs, a clearance of no less than 0.5 m must be ensured.
4. Selection of Electrical Equipment for Gantry Cranes
